DIY: Add Heat to Your Cold Granite Desk

If you work at a desk made of granite, quartz or any natural stone, then you have probably noticed how cold the material feels on your skin. Whether your stone desk is located in your home or in an office building, there is a solution for you to make your cold surface more comfortable.

Stick-on heating mats for under your desk apply directly to the stone, warming it about 25 degrees above room temperature. This warmth not only soothes your wrists and arms when working all day, but gives your desk a more elegant and luxurious appeal. Why not bring more comfort to the area that you sit at most?

“Our nice, expensive granite would remain cold all the time, so we decided to install a stick-on heater just under where my keyboard sits,” said Dan. D from Waterloo, Ontario. “Now, I am happy that it is quite warm and the ladies that work at the desk are very happy that they don’t have to deal with a freezing work surface. Plus, the install was very easy!”

The heating mats are easy to install which is why they are marketed as a “Do-It-Yourself” product. The simple peel-and-stick application takes minutes and the heater can be plugged into a standard 120V outlet. You can even leave your heater on all the time, as the cost to run it is about the same as running a 70 watt light bulb!

Depending on the size, rectangular stick-on heating mats cost between $175 – $549. They can also be customized to fit your exact surface.
